2005 Survey Report on Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Manufacturing Companies at Hotel Mulia, Gerbera Conference Room

A half-day seminar on Japanese Foreign Direct Investment was hosted by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) in collaboration with the coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs (EKUIN), Indonesia-Japan Economic Committee of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJEC-KADIN) and the Jakarta Japan Club (JJC).

The seminar presented the findings of JBIC Institute’s Annual Survey on Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Manufacturing Companies, which was the 17th survey since 1989. The findings revealed some topics such as “Which countries are most favorite to the Japanese investors?” and “How do they view Indonesia?”.

In his opening remark, Mr. Koki Hirota, the Chief Representative for Jakarta from JBIC, stressed that the information derived from the seminar and the discussion that followed should lead to actual actions in order for it to be truly fruitful.
Mr. Takanori Satake (Chief Researcher, JBIC Institute) then presented the Annual Survey, and then Mr. Mahendra Siregar (Deputy for International Economic Cooperation, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs) explained about Improving Indonesia’s Invest Climate, with the backing up by the Policy Package, released just before the seminar. After the presentation, a panel discussion was held with additional discussants, Mr. Kusumo A Martoredjo (Chairman of Indonesia-Japan Economic Committee, KADIN), and Mr. Yasuo Ichimura (Chairman, Jakarta Japan Club), moderated by Dr. Raksaka Mahi (Institute for Economic and Social Research, Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia): this was followed by enthusiastic floor discussion.
Mr. Omi, the deuty Chief Representative for Jakarta from JBIC then closed the seminar with the remark that the strategic information should be thoroughly taken into consideration prior to implementation of actions for the betterment of investment climate.
