* Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit ( MRT ) System Project

A loan agreement for "Engineering Services for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit ( MRT ) System Project" totaling up to 1,869 million yen was signed between the Republic of Indonesia and JBIC on November 28, 2006.

The objective of the project is s to expand passenger transport capacity by constructing a MRT system in the Jakarta metropolitan area where traffic is seriously congested, and thereby contribute to improve the invest climate in Java. The MRT is planned to connect Central Jakarta ( Duku Atas ) to South Jakarta ( Lebabrus ) for 14.5 km of its distance and have underground part which will be the country’s first subway.

* MRT Advisory Committee

The project is a symbol of partnership between Japan and Indonesia, and at the same time, the project will be the first MRT project in Indonesia. Thus, it is desirable to ask for opinions and ideas on such as design, operation, business planning and social consideration of MRT system widely not limited to within the Public Sector.

In this view, MRT Advisory Committee was established on February 12, 2007 based upon “Decree of Minister of Transportation as Chairman of Jakarta MRT Preparatory Committee ( No. Kp27/2007 )”. The Committee aims to gather opinions and ideas from both Indonesian and Japanese experts and take those opinions and ideas to good account. The result of discussion of the Committee will be submitted to Minister of Transportation and Governor of DKI Jakarta as recommendations from the experts. The knowledge and know-how of both Indonesian and Japanese experts are expected to be utilized for the better implementation of the MRT project.

The first session was held on February 13, 2007 in Jakarta with participation by the Committee Member, the Minister of Transportation, Vice Governor of DKI, Ambassador of Japan and so on. Since that time, three sessions has been held up to now. The minutes of meetings of the past sessions has been made public as follows.
