A gNew Padang Airport Construction Projecth was completed with
a support of Japanese ODA Yen Loan by Japan Bank for International
Cooperation (JBIC), and a new airport was constructed 23 km north
from Padang City for the opposite direction of the former airport.
All the commercial Flight Operations have been transferred to
the new airports on July 22. The Completion Ceremony was held
on August 25 hosted by H.E. Yudhoyono, President of the Republic
of Indonesia with an attendance of H.E. Iimura, Japanese Ambassador
and Mr. Hirota, Chief Representative of JBIC Jakarta Office.
@The Project includes the construction of a 2,750m of runway,
a navigation system of the same level of advanced countries, a
passenger and cargo terminal and a control tower. The new airport
where a big airplane can land and take off is expected to meet
an increasing demand, compared with the former airport with a
small space and problems in safety. Padang city is the third largest
city new near Bukittinggi, a tourist area, and is expected to
attract more tourists and direct investments with the new airport
from neighbor countries including Singapore and Malaysia.
@Contractor of the project was Shimizu-Adhi Karya-Marubeni J.V.
with a supervision of Pacific Consultants International. The new
airport opened on July 22.

in 1990 and 1995 are completed. The project, with gNew Padang
