gPalembang Airport Development Project (1)h was completed with
a support of Japanese ODA Yen Loan by Japan Bank for International
Cooperation (JBIC) under Loan Agreement No. IP-491. The Completion

@The current Palembang Airport, located in the suburb of Palembang
City in Sumatra, has only a short runway where a big aircraft
cannot land and take off as well as a small and old passenger
terminal. The runway does not meet the safety standard of ICAO
(International Civil Aviation Organization) and a renovation was
required in terms of securing safety operation. The project includes
reconstruction of 2,200m Runway and construction of a 300m extension
to lengthen Runway to 2500m, and Construction of a new passenger
terminal and others airport facilities, aiming at meeting an increasing
demand and improving safeness of aviation. Palembang is the second
largest city in Sumatra with a more than 1.5 million population
and also a commercial and industrial city where coal is shipped
and oil industry exists. With the project, regional economy of
South Sumatra surrounding Palembang is expected to largely develop
through expanding passenger and cargo volume of Palembang airport.
@Contractors of the project are Hazama Corporation and PT. Brantas
Abipraya (Persero) Joint Operation with a supervision of Pacific
Consultants International in association of PT Dacrea Avia.
<JICA conducted surveys and studies for formulating the project>
