gRailway Double Tracking on Java South line Project (I)(II)h and gDepok Depot Construction Projecth were completed with support of Japanese ODA Loan by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The Completion Ceremony was held on January 22, 2008 with the attendance of H.E. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Okaniwa, Minister of Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Koga, Chief Representative of JBIC Jakarta Office.

1. Railway Double Tracking on Java South line Project (I)(II)

The Java South Line is one of the main lines carrying passengers and freight on the island of Java, and its route connects Jakarta with Surabaya via Yogyakarta and Solo (total 828 km). The double tracking works has been conducted in corresponding to the increasing number of transportation volume in Java south line.
This time, the completed double tracking works was from Kutoarjo to Yogyakarta (64 kilometers) in the Java South Line. Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has so far provided Phase I loan (about 6 billion yen) and Phase II loan (about 10 billion yen) for this project. After the completion of this double tracking works, the single track line is only from Kutoarjo to Cirebon.
In March 2007, JBIC provided an ODA Loan (about 100 million yen) to support the double tracking of the remaining section from Kutoarjo to Kroya (76 kilometer). This loan will finance the engineering services for review of the detail design, establishment of standards and regulation for operation and maintenance, and improvement of railway business operations, etc. JBIC continues to support the double tracking of Java south line.

2. Depok Depot Construction Project

In August, 2007, the construction work of depot was also completed with support of Japanese ODA loan. JBIC provided ODA loan (about 9.2 billion yen) to construct the new depot to conduct the inspection, regular maintenance and repair of eclectic cars in Depok, near Jakarta , in order to cope with the increasing number of electric railway cars at work in Jabotabek area.
This project is expected to contribute to improvement of railway service, safety, and railway transportation capacity by the above mentioned support of Japanese ODA loan,
